Gingivitis is a disease that affects the teeth, characterized by severe redness and swelling of the gums and bleeding from them during brushing, but without pain. This makes people neglect cleaning for fear of bleeding and leaving the disease because it does not hurt. This complicates matters, causing the disease to develop and increase and turn into inflammation of the connective tissue of the teeth.
The main cause of gingivitis is tartar that accumulates on the teeth near the surface of the gums.
Tartar is a bacterial plate consisting of millions of bacteria and food residues that harden over time if the teeth are left without daily cleaning with a brush and toothpaste. Bacteria secrete a toxic substance that leads to inflammation of the gums, redness and swelling, and then bleeding during brushing or automatically in advanced cases of inflammation. It can also cause inflammation of the gums and around the teeth to cause bad breath.
One of the factors that contribute to gingivitis and its increase is the change in hormones in the human body, especially during adolescence for boys and girls, as well as pregnancy for women, where the condition of the gums deteriorates and becomes severely inflamed, bleeding and swollen if neglected without proper and regular daily cleaning.
Treatment of gum diseases
Treatment of gums depends primarily on daily commitment to cleaning and proper care of the mouth and teeth
Through:
1. Regular daily cleaning with a brush and medical toothpaste designated for gum diseases.. As these toothpastes contain an antibiotic for the bacteria that cause the disease, which helps get rid of inflammation and bleeding.
2. Use a special medical mouthwash (mouthwash) to treat gum disease that contains compounds that are effective in eliminating the bacteria that cause the disease
3. Regular cleaning in a dental clinic to get rid of tartar and plaque that is stuck and hardened around the teeth
Which gives the gums a chance to heal and stick again to the surface of the teeth
Within (2-3) weeks we get rid of the blood, swelling and odor and the gums return to their natural state and size, pink in color and strongly attached to the surface of the teeth…. However, gum disease can easily return if the causes return again
Ideal care for oral and dental health
Teeth and gums can be kept healthy by maintaining high-level oral and dental health, which is represented by the following
1. Brushing teeth with a medium-hard toothbrush (bristle hardness) and anti-caries or gum-treatment toothpaste 2-3 times daily
2. Using a mouthwash to cleanse the mouth of bacteria that accumulate between the teeth or on the tongue that the brush did not reach mechanically. Use once or more daily, especially before bed
3. Using cleaning aids such as dental floss to clean between the teeth and under the fixtures (bridges)
4. Using dental sticks, an interdental brush, or a tongue cleaner after consulting your dentist to choose what suits you
5. Regular cleaning in the dentist’s clinic at a rate of twice a year
